STEPH IN A CUSTOM FITTED GOWN
From high school crushes to a mountaintop proposal in Canada, Steph and Jasper’s love story has been built on milestones, adventure, and a certainty that they were meant for one another. Their wedding at The Lussh reflected that joy — a celebration filled with fun, energy, and nothing but good vibes.
For her gown, Steph worked with Ella and Dharma to create a custom design: a corset bodice with a soft fit-and-flare skirt, detailed with Paris lace trickling down into a sculpted silhouette and finished with romantic Paris lace sleeves. “As soon as I tried on the sleeves, I knew I was in love. Being able to design a custom gown meant I could choose exactly what I wanted and create my dream dress.”
Below, Steph shares her story in her own words.
STEPH AND JASPER - THE LOVE STORY
HOW DID YOU AND YOUR PARTNER MEET?
We first met through friends during high school and had always had a bit of a crush on one another. Eventually as (barely) adults, the timing was right and we hit it off!
Was there a moment you knew they were “the one”?
Being together as long as we have, we’ve gone through many of life’s milestones and challenges together. Each moment solidified that feeling I had found my person.
Can you share a little about your proposal?
We were on a trip to Canada with a group of our closest friends. On our last day of skiing at the top of the mountain in Big White he bent a knee and (after dropping the ring in the snow) popped the question.
The Wedding
How would you describe the feeling or atmosphere you wanted for your wedding day?
Fun and nothing but good vibes!
Did you have any particular inspiration, theme, or vision in mind?
Simple, elegant and classic.
What drew you to Ella Moda?
After struggling to find a dress I loved, a friend recommended Ella Moda. The opportunity to be involved in the design process and have a custom gown made to fit were stand outs for me. The wonderful customer service from Dharma on my first visit and her ‘whatever you want we can make happen’ attitude was a welcome relief and unique to Ella Moda.
Can you describe the moment you first tried on your gown?
It was so exciting. I was so relieved I had finally found the dress. After many unsuccessful try ons at other stores, I wasn’t sure if that feeling was real. I was with two of my close girlfriends and it was a unanimous decision!
We replaced the full skirt of the Honey dress with a fitted mermaid skirt using different fabric. I had a vision of how the 3D lace flowers would trickle down. Somehow, Ella and Dharma understood and enhanced this vision to create something even better than I had imagined.
What was the most emotional moment for you on the day?
Seeing my husband as I walked down the aisle. The tears were flowing.
How did your partner react when they first saw you in your gown?
Perfectly
If you could relive one moment, what would it be?
The dance floor!
Was there an unexpected detail that ended up being one of your favourites?
Unbeknownst to me, my mum had contacted Ella Moda to arrange a unique horseshoe gift made from my gown’s 3D flowers and fixed with a white gold heart which she had engraved with a message. Unwrapping this beautiful keepsake together with my mum on the morning was so special.
In one word, how did you feel walking down the aisle?
Excited and surreal (sorry, that’s two).
How did your gown make you feel throughout the day?
Incredible.
What advice would you give brides just beginning their gown journey?
Don’t settle! Exactly what you want is out there and achievable. You will not be disappointed with Ella & her team. You’re in safe hands, trust the process.
