REBECCA IN CUSTOM COSIMO

Sometimes, finding the right person is as simple as taking a chance. After both relocating interstate and looking to meet new people, this couple connected on Bumble in 2019, never expecting a swipe would lead to forever. Although they kept things casual at first, two months apart while she travelled through Europe made one thing unmistakably clear — Joel was the only person she wanted to come home to.

A few years later, what was planned as a special 30th birthday celebration became something even more memorable. Joel organised a romantic evening in Brisbane, complete with rose petals, champagne, and her favourite chocolate-covered strawberries before asking the question she’d been hoping for. Surrounded by thoughtful details and plenty of emotion, it was the perfect beginning to their next chapter together.

Their wedding reflected everything they love most — relaxed, joyful, and centred around the people who mean the most to them. With the timeless beauty of Plantation House providing the perfect backdrop, the couple kept their vision simple, letting a sunny winter’s day, flowing champagne, and the warmth of family and friends create an atmosphere filled with laughter, love, and happy tears.

For her bridal look, the bride collaborated with the Ella Moda team to create a custom Cosimo gown that was uniquely her own. Combining the silhouette she loved with beautiful textured fabric and statement sleeves inspired by Posy, the final design was made even more meaningful when paired with her mother’s veil. “As soon as we pinned all three elements together, my eyes lit up and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. It was everything I wanted and absolutely perfect.”

Below, the bride shares the story of their unforgettable wedding day in her own words.

REBECCA AND JOEL - THE LOVE STORY

HOW DID YOU AND YOUR PARTNER MEET?

We met on bumble in 2019. We’re both from interstate and struggled to meet new friends so we tried online dating and we managed to find each other luckily!!

Was there a moment you knew they were “the one”?

A couple of months after we met, I was going to Europe for a 2 month long holiday. We didn’t make anything official before I left, but once I got there I realised I only really wanted to ever be with Joel. We’ve been together since.

Can you share a little about your proposal?

Joel booked dinner and a hotel in Brisbane for my 30th birthday (or so he told me) . He set up rose petals, champagne and my favourite ever chocolate coated strawberries. I suspected he was going to ask but it was very sweet and of course I said yes!

The Wedding

How would you describe the feeling or atmosphere you wanted for your wedding day?

I was so excited to have all our friends and family in one place all together. We just wanted it to be very relaxed, fun atmosphere, and wanted everyone to have the best time together. We wanted it to feel full of love and laughter, just like us!

Did you have any particular inspiration, theme, or vision in mind?

Not really, our venue Plantation House is so stunning, it really did most of the heavy lifting. All we needed was a beautiful winter day with the sun shining and champagne. Which we got, total dream come true.

What drew you to Ella Moda?

Before I was even engaged I had seen the Ella moda posy dress on Instagram. As soon as I saw it, I knew that’s what what I wanted to wear on my wedding day when it eventually came around. I looked at a couple of other bridal shops but in the back of my mind u knew nothing came close to the Ella moda dresses. They have such a unique, classic but modern look about them, I could always spot one in wedding photos from venues and photographers I was seeing on Instagram.

When we arrived, and dharma was so wonderful I knew for certain it was the place I would find my dress, the fact I ended up having something entirely custom, made it even better than I could have imagined.

Can you describe the moment you first tried on your gown?

I knew I wanted a more fitted style of dress, but I was so drawn to the fabric of another. So we ended up combining 2 of Ella’s designs and added on the sleeves, similar to posy which was my original inspiration. It was everything I wanted and absolutely perfect.

As soon as we pinned all 3 elements together you could tell, my eyes lit up and I could not wipe the smile off my face!! That was the feeling I had been searching for but couldn’t find until Ella moda!

Were there any custom touches or special details that felt especially personal?

The team at was able to help me wear my mums veil, which matched the beautiful fabric of my dress perfectly! The length and lace flowers were the perfect compliment to my dress. It was really special.

What was the most emotional moment for you on the day?

Listening to Joel’s vows was so special. Our whole ceremony was my favourite part of the day, we laughed and cried and soaked it all in as much as we possibly could.

How did your partner react when they first saw you in your gown?

Joel’s a bit of a softy, so we always knew he would be a bit teary, but he absolutely loved it. Everyone commented on how beautiful the dress was. Lots of happy tears.

If you could relive one moment, what would it be?

I can’t choose just one moment, the whole day was honestly more perfect than I could have ever dreamed. Best day ever!

Was there an unexpected detail that ended up being one of your favourites?

The sleeves and my mums veil!

In one word, how did you feel walking down the aisle?

Like myself but better! And so happy!

How did your gown make you feel throughout the day?

It was so well fitted, I felt comfortable and confident. It suited my shape so well. I could dance all night and was easy to move around in. I felt so beautiful I didn’t want to take it off.

What advice would you give brides just beginning their gown journey?

Go to Ella moda, obviously!! I think make sure you choose what makes you feel beautiful and comfortable. Trust your gut.
